War Memorial, Library and Civic Precinct, Regional Park

The mayor’s political promise to reinstate the War Memorial on Marine Parade – became a vanity project driven by her and the deputy mayor – at more than doubled in cost.

Councillors initially approved $1.5m in 2020. Two years later, the mayor came back for another $0.5m. Even that wasn’t enough, and the project overspent by another $1.2m. Total

overspend: $1.7m – more than 100 per cent above the approved budget.

This is hypocrisy and a clear disregard for ratepayers’ money.

If the mayor cannot manage a relatively modest $1.5m project without blowing the budget

by 100 per cent, how can ratepayers trust her to deliver on much larger vanity projects –

such as the Library and Civic Precinct, or the under-budgeted Regional Park?

Can a person who fails to deliver on promises, like removing chlorine and overspends so dramatically on a vanity project (the War Memorial) deliver affordable rates?

If you care, vote to change the Mayor.

Vote for Nigel Simpson, the only vote that will change the Mayor.

Nigel Simpson is the only Mayoral candidate with the skills and experience for the job.
